DISTINGUISHING MARKS Faint scarring scattered across his entire body, but mostly his chest/torso and arms. There are some more notable marks down his right shoulder and across his back, and a particularly nasty puncture scar on his right thigh.

PHYSICALITY Teenager who's seen a lot of rough times. Lean built, he has some muscle but he basically looks like he'd slip into "scrawny" if he missed two meals. Good posture, but carries himself with a near perpetual nonchalance - slouches his shoulders, leans against things, puts his hands in his pockets. Very rarely still. Murphy gestures, shrugs, kind of loosely fidgets, and all-in-all tends to talk with his whole body.

HISTORY
THE ARK & THE GROUND
Murphy spent the first 17 years of his life on the Ark, a space station orbiting Earth populated by what was believed to be the last survivors of the human race after the planet was decimated in a nuclear apocalypse. A society living on the knife's edge of limited space and resources, all crimes became punishable by death, a law Murphy experienced first hand at a young age when his father was executed for stealing medication when Murphy had the flu. His mother, unable to cope with the loss, turned to alcohol and eventually drank herself to death. The last thing she told Murphy was that she blamed him for his father's death.

In an act of revenge, Murphy set fire to the quarters of the guard who arrested his father. Considered underage, Murphy was incarcerated in the Ark's prison, the Skybox, until trial on his 18th birthday. His sentence would most likely have been execution.

However, with the Ark's resources dwindling faster than expected, it was decided that the 100 kids currently in the Skybox would be dropped down to Earth to find out if the irradiated surface was habitable.

It was.

In the months since landing on the ground, Murphy went from being a bully to a villain to a pariah. He's experienced various close encounters with death, repeated torture, a couple of revenge murders, a pilgrimage to a promised land that didn't exist, 3 months captivity in an underground bunker, evaded brainwashing attempts by the AI that blew up the planet in the first place and lived as a fake holy man as a grounder prisoner. Survival by whatever means necessary has become his prerogative, but his experiences and relationships have also caused him to develop a more overt level of compassion, a need for connection and the ability to do the right thing to save others.

THE NEST
Murphy joined the Nest after being attacked by the Enemy in the throne room of Polis, leaving Emori there as he fled. When he learnt the extent of what he'd signed up for, he initially fought it, attempting to have his symbiote surgically removed. This failed, resulting in he and Bellamy being arrested for the kidnapping of a brain surgeon. They were rescued from one of Concordia's underground prisons by two other hosts, Ilde and The Darkling. Shortly after, Murphy discovered that he seemed to be particularly sensitive to the pain caused by his broodmates Mara Jade, Remus Lupin, Peter Parker and Kate Bishop going comatose. His connection with other hosts and use of his nesting pod seemed to be the only things which could soothe this, though they also resulted in the strengthening of his integration with his symbiote.

Through the events of their second mission, a tournament on the space station Waypoint Shril, Murphy came to understand his unique ability, as well as the state it would leave him in afterwards. While he resented the loss of control in both, there was no denying that the ability saved his and a few other lives. In the preparation for their third mission, Cathaway, one of the senior hosts, emphasised the importance of his ability, and left Murphy with a heavy sense of responsibility for the survival of all of the hosts.

During the third mission, Clarke arrived. Seeing (and feeling) her reunited with Lexa and Bellamy caused Murphy to finally confront his grief for having left Emori behind, and likely never seeing her again. He was helped through this by his one remaining broodmate, Seviilia, though she went comatose shortly after. Murphy was left the last of his brood as they attempted to complete the mission.

ABILITIES
SKILLS - Experience with slightly-higher-than-modern advanced technology
- Experience with untrained hand-to-hand, firearms and knives
- Basic survival skills such as hunting, foraging, building shelters and starting fires
- Pretty decent self-taught chef
- Approx. nurse/paramedic level medical skills and knowledge (Nest memory)
ARK-BORN - Able to metabolise high amounts of radiation
- Genetically engineered to be a universal donor
- Birth-control implant in his left arm
SYMBIOTE Has a non-sentient alien organism in his head. This has grown into his brain and cannot be removed without killing him. The symbiote connects him to a hivemind known as The Nest. He has a constant full telepathic link to all other hosts, though distance strains the connection. He has learnt a lot of mental skills in order to control what he shares with other hosts, but he can never shut them out completely. Murphy often refers to his symbiote as his "brain bug" or just "bug", but it's more like a plant's roots in structure and growth.

Being of the Rho variant, his symbiote grants him mental type benefits. His cognitive abilities have been boosted slightly eg. information processing and recall, he learns new things more easily, and his senses are a bit sharper.

Every symbiote grants its host a specialised ability. Murphy's is intuitive precognition.
(+) Immediate causal precognition presenting as intuitive understanding of where to go, what to do, objects to pick up or what to say to get out of a highly dangerous to life-threatening situation.
(-) No active control or true knowledge. Triggered only by being in said situation, lasts maximum one hour. Will automatically include brood members in "survive" scenario, but not anyone else. Will be followed immediately by a period of derealisation of surroundings and objects, lasting two hours.
Murphy is aware of this ability but does not know the extent of what it can do or its limitations. As Rubi characters are always resurrected from death, it will not trigger while he's in game.

MONSTER
appearance
Bone-white and stretching near 9ft tall with thin, elongated limbs and a completely featureless face and body, the Slender almost resembles a tree. Long, sharp fingers extend from its hands, but these are rarely seen to be used. Instead it is the multiple red tentacles that sprout from its back which seem to be its primary means of any movement, able to reach lengths of 30 ft, as well as transform from a flat, razor-edged form to a soft, rounded form. When not in use, the tentacles sit wrapped around the Slender's neck, resembling a large scarf or collar that comes up high enough to cover the lower half of the Slender's 'face'.

POWERS
The Slender camouflages itself easily in most environments, but most effectively in wooded areas. It exudes a psychic aura covering a 50 ft area around it. Within this aura, those with weaker willpower can be compelled by the Slender to do its bidding, an ability either used to draw prey closer or send people out to seek out other victims and bring them back. Those with stronger willpower will experience paranoia, nausea, nosebleeds and hallucinations in increasing severity.

behavior
The Slender prefers to kill by strangulation or suffocation. It will often have a victim lured to a particular area, then spend hours stalking them, attacking occasionally before falling back to lurk nearby, seeming to feed off the fear and pain inflicted. Though the hope of escape is dangled within the victim's reach, it is rare that any will survive an encounter.
